Southeast Asia International Cheese Demand Landscape
This chapter, part of a broader study on U.S. cheddar opportunities in 17 international markets, evaluates Indonesia and Malaysia—two distinct and developing markets in Southeast Asia. While cheese consumption is lower compared to Western markets, rising incomes, urbanization, and shifting food preferences are expanding demand. Indonesia’s advancing foodservice sector and strong U.S. market share, along with Malaysia’s import reliance and use of cheddar-type cheeses in the industrial sector, signal mid-to-long-term opportunities for U.S. exporters.
