Indonesia Shipment Delays

The post-COVID transportation crisis has led to supply chain disruptions worldwide, and U.S. agricultural exporters are reeling from the bottlenecks and delays. Such delays may also have an impact on clearing shipments in Indonesia due to the validity period of import permits.

In Indonesia, import permits are valid for a 6-month import period, with the first period ending on June 30, while the second period starts on July 1. Products arriving without a valid import permit are most likely to be rejected and denied entry. With the current unpredictable logistical situation, it is expected that some shipments, which were imported under the import permit for the first period, would not be able to reach Indonesia in time by June 30. USDEC has discussed this issue with the U.S. Foreign Agriculture Service in Jakarta and they agreed to prepare an appeal letter to Ministry of Trade for the affected shipments addressing the constraints resulting in the delay.
