Turkey Set to Close Market for U.S. Dairy Products on July 1, 2015

The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) has been working in conjunction with the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) and the USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) for nearly two years to prevent the market for dairy products of U.S origin destined for Turkey from being closed. The Turkish Government and U.S. Government have been unable to agree on language for an export certificate. The current extension is set to expire on June 30, 2015, and if no extension or new agreement is reached in the meantime, no products with certificates dated after June 30, 2015 will be allowed entrance into Turkey.

Exporters are encouraged to expedite any shipments currently planned and ensure their certificate requests are made in advance of the potential market closure. USDEC will continue to monitor the situation and keep our membership updated.  If you have any questions, please contact Matt McKnight (mmcknight@usdec.org) or Mitch Bowling (mbowling@usdec.org) at (703) 528-3049.
