Egypt Delays the Implementation of its New Halal Requirements
The Egyptian Halal certification requirements have been delayed until February 28, 2022. Egypt recently issued an amendment to the WTO (EGY/313/Add.1) announcing a pause in the implementation of its new Halal certification requirements.
The Halal certification requirements are now scheduled to go into effect beginning February 28, 2022. As such, until February 28, 2022, Egypt will allow entry for imports of milk and dairy products without a Halal certificate.
In addition to the delay of its new Halal certificate requirements, according to the same WTO amendment referenced above, Egypt has changed its list of dairy related products requiring a Halal certificate. Crude milk is now excluded.
