Iran Market Closure Update

In follow up to USDEC’s Member Alert on Nov. 20, 2015, on the closure of the Iranian market to imports of U.S. consumer goods, Iran has issued clarifying guidance to the original oral decree from the Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade. The Trade Promotion Organization of Iran has now published the consumer goods subject to the import ban. The only dairy products on this banned list are buttermilk, acidified and fermented milk and cream (HS 0403.90.90); infant formula (1901.10); ice cream (2105); and beverages (2202.90). It does appear at this time that dairy products not on the banned list may continue to be imported into Iran. The situation is fluid, though, so exporters are strongly encouraged to work with importers to verify whether their goods can be imported prior to shipment.
