USDEC received word today that Turkey will not allow dairy products from the U.S. that arrive after Dec. 31, 2013 to clear customs. Effective immediately, neither APHIS nor AMS will issue export certificates for dairy products destined for Turkey. The market closed because the Turkish government and U.S. government have been unable to agree on language for an export certificate. Negotiations are ongoing, but there is no timeframe currently available for the market to reopen.
