Egypt Delays the Implementation of its New Halal Requirements By An Additional Year

On December 8, 2023, Egypt issued an amendment to the WTO, notified as EGY/313/Add.7, announcing a year-long continuation of the current pause in the implementation of its new halal regulation through December 31, 2024. Shipments of milk and dairy products without a halal certificate arriving at an Egyptian port in the time between now and December 31, 2024, should continue to be allowed entry without issue.

Information regarding Egypt's halal and labeling requirements can be found in the Egypt section of Volumes 2 and 3 of the USDEC Export Guide.

USDEC continues to work closely with FAS, USTR, and contacts within Egypt, and we will provide further information and updates once they are obtained. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact Bryan Jacoby at bjacoby@usdec.org.
