Free Trade Agreement Compliance Webinar

USDEC's Market Access and Regulatory Affairs team has partnered with Sidley Austin LLP to offer training on free trade agreement (FTA) compliance to USDEC processor and trader members, free of charge, on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 2-3 pm ET.

Meredith DeMent of Sidley Austin LLP will review how to determine whether your product qualifies for preferential tariff treatment under U.S. FTAs, which preference criterion to choose, accumulation, transit and transshipment requirements, FTA certificates of origin, recordkeeping requirements, and origin verification.

Speaker Bio

Meredith DeMent counsels U.S. and multinational companies on all aspects of U.S. customs law. She focuses her practice on evolving trade policy, customs compliance, duty mitigation strategies and counseling clients in matters involving the intersection between U.S. customs laws and other areas of law.  Meredith assists clients with issues involving valuation, country-of-origin, tariff classification, free trade agreements, duty preference programs and trade enforcement actions, such as the ongoing actions pursuant to Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.

She has experience with customs prior disclosures, penalty petitions, compliance audits, enforcement actions before U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as well as trade litigation before the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Meredith also advises clients on international trade due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions, strategic customs planning, and the design, implementation and administration of effective compliance programs.
